Women's Health

Women's health is an area that Rebecca has invested extra time and energy towards furthering her knowledge and skills.

Rebecca hopes to inspire and promote self care, responsibility and awareness surrounding the importance of being in tune with your  body's patterns and cycle and help women to recognise the significance of each stage of the menstrual cycle and it’s connections to  overall health, fertility, energy, well-being and vitality from puberty through adulthood, pregnancy, postpartum, menopause and beyond.

Utilising the many tools and wisdom of Chinese Medicine (Acupuncture & Moxibustion, Chinese Herbal medicines, Chinese Dietary therapy and Qigong) women may experience positive changes and  relief from a number of menstrual cycle related problems to help reclaim their energy, vitality and happiness.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy, a woman’s body is undergoing so many phenomenal changes.  Pregnancy demands nourishment on many levels to support the life giving energy that is required to sustain, grow, deliver and care for a precious baby.

Support for women during this time is fundamental in preparing  for a positive birthing experience and entry into motherhood.

Rebecca demonstrates "Acupressure for Labour" techniques to her clients and partners to offer relief during labour, and uses the wisdom of TCM to offer help for a number of conditions during pregnancy.

Rebecca is a member of the
Obstetrical Acupuncture Association (OBAA). The OBAA provides a resource for both pregnant people and their care providers to find acupuncturists in their area that demonstrate an elevated standard of care and safety within the field of peri-natal care.

Postpartum Care
Traditional Chinese Medicine and many other traditions throughout the world  honour the postpartum period as a time for the woman to be cared for around the clock for at least the first month after the delivery of  baby, referred to as "The Golden Month."

The Golden Month is a special time to rest and recover from the phenomenal efforts of pregnancy, labour and time to bond with newborn ideally surrounded by peace, warmth and safety of the home with family and close friends.

An emphasis on providing the new mother with nourishing soups, home cooked meals and ample time to rest, recover and sleep, can all contribute to the mother having the opportunity to replenish stores of  energy and stamina required to continue with first few months of regular 3-4 hourly breastfeeds, sleep deprivation and years ahead of parenting.

Acupuncture, Moxibustion (particularly 'mother warming') and Chinese Herbal Medicines may be of benefit at this time in a woman's life to support her energy, well-being and recovery.

Postpartum home visits are available to Rebecca's pregnancy patients.

Did you know that some veterinarians and equine osteopaths  perform acupuncture on their animal patients to help injuries and stress responses?

CHINESE FOOD THERAPY

Chinese food therapy is not about the latest fad diets and does not place much emphasis on the number of kilojoules/calories found in each serve. Rather it  focuses on the relational thermal energetics of food and how food combinations and various cooking methods can help to restore balance to one's digestive health. (based on your presenting symptoms and underlying constitution).

Chinese Food Therapy is all about eating with joy, eating moderately and enjoying a wide colourful variety of seasonal locally sourced and fresh produce that makes you feel good.

The strength of your Stomach and Spleen Qi or “digestive fire” is paramount in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chinese Dietary Therapy.

Stomach and Spleen Qi essentially translates into how effectively your body can extract, absorb and utilise the nutrients from your food to enable optimal physiological functioning and processes to occur.

Some people are considered more "Yang" or "Hot" in nature, whilst others may be considered to be overly abundant in  "Yin" "Damp"or "Cold" . Each of these TCM classifications describe pathologies occurring within the body, and indicate which foods to include in the diet and foods to avoid.

We simply can not separate the food that we eat, from the state of our health.

I personally  think it’s really important to begin exploring the abundance of foods that are available for you to include into your diet rather than focusing on the foods you have been told to avoid and eliminate.

Bring some joy back into your kitchen, meals and digestion - with each mouthful of nourishing food you are helping your body to heal.

Aim for A wide variety of FRESH & SEASONAL produce that makes you feel good and avoid anything that comes wrapped in plastic or pills in bottles sprouting amazing health claims!

Food therapy is just plain common sense and is YOUR responsibility to invest in nourishing YOUR body with the best nutrients possible.

One of my personal favourite Chinese Proverbs that is applicable to all medical systems states that:

"Anyone who takes medicine and neglects diet, wastes the skills of the physician"

& The famous quote from Hippocrates, the father of western medicine:

"Let your food be your medicine, and medicine be your food."

Some more quotes to digest:

“Meeting our nutritional needs is essential for us to have great energy and health. If your nutritional needs fall short or you are consuming substances that disrupt the energy creation cycles of your body, then fatigue is a likely result. Nothing, nothing at all, can replace a real-food, wholefood, nutrient dense way of eating. Nothing.”
(Page 48 from the fantastic book by Dr Libby Weaver “Exhausted to energized”, 2015, Little Green Frog Publishing)

It’s always the right  time to nourish yourself wisely.
